POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Tuition

To enroll in lessons or classes, we require a credit card on file. After signing up, you will have the option to schedule a trial lesson, or you can wait for one of our staff to reach out to you shortly. All trial lessons have a one-time fee of $32.50. After your trial lesson, if you decide to continue, we will match you with a teacher and activate monthly automatic payments.

Only digital payments are accepted. All payments are processed by ACH transfer or pre-authorized credit cards on the first of the month. If payment is made using your credit card on file, there is a standard 3% processing fee. Tuition is prorated for students beginning lessons mid-month. Tuition is never pro-rated for missed lessons. Tuition is a set amount each month and is calculated based on each student's designated teacher and duration of lesson. Tuition does not include any retail teaching materials such as books or instruments.

Average of Four Lessons Per Month

Tuition is based on a 48 week year. Most months, you will get four lessons. In longer months, you will get five, while shorter months such as November or December will only have three lessons. The tuition is the same each month. For example, we don't charge you more when you have five lessons, and we don't charge you less when you have three lessons. This makes everyone's accounting easier and evens out in the end.

Cancellations

Cancellation of a private lesson must be made at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled lesson time in order to be eligible for a make-up lesson. The exception is if a student becomes sick on the day of the lesson and 24 hours notice is not possible. Please send a text or leave a message with your teacher directly. No-shows or failure to notify the school/teacher within 24 hours is considered a forfeited lesson. We cannot extend the length of a lesson for students arriving late. If you know of dates ahead of time where you/your child cannot make a lesson, please notify the school when booking/paying for your lessons. There are NO refunds on unused or cancelled lessons. For group lessons or classes, you are responsible for tuition whether or not you/your student attends a class until the time you notify the staff that you wish to cancel. If you have paid monthly tuition and miss a class, there are no refunds.

Make-Ups

For any lesson missed by a student with at least 24 hours notice, we will attempt to provide you with a make-up lesson. We will try to schedule it with your student's normal teacher on a day and time that works for you. However, we cannot guarantee that it will be with your student's normal teacher, nor that it will be at your preferred day or time. We ask you to communicate with us in advance as much as possible so we may appropriately adjust.

Discontinuing Lessons

To discontinue lessons and to discontinue charges to your account, please contact our office by phone or email before the 15th of the last month. We do not prorate tuition for the last month of lessons. Students will be responsible for their last month's tuition whether or not they attend lessons. Unused lesson credits will be forfeited.

Summer Vacation

Pittsburgh School of the Arts operates year-round and does not close for the summer. If you are taking a month off for vacation and wish to resume at a later date, we cannot guarantee that your student's preferred day, time, and teacher will still be available. We encourage students to continue through the summer to maintain progress and keep their preferred time slot.

Schedule Changes

As seasons and schedules change, adjustments are possible. However, we ask you to communicate with us in advance as much as possible so we may appropriately adjust. We receive a high volume of schedule changes at the beginning and end of each school year. If possible, we request that you notify us of any schedule changes two weeks before the start of the month where it is to take place.

Preparation for Lessons

We ask that students bring any books, folders, or materials requested by their instructor to each lesson, as well as their instrument and any necessary accessories (if applicable). If students forget to bring materials to a lesson, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to provide replacements during the lesson. While Pittsburgh School of the Arts does not have a specific dress code, we ask that students address appropriately.

Care of Students

Pittsburgh School of the Arts is not responsible for providing care for students before or after lessons. Our instructors are scheduled for back-to-back lessons and are unable to supervise students in the lobby. We do not have a receptionist present. Parents with young children are encouraged to remain in the school lobby during lessons. Students are not to be left at the school for excessive time periods before or after their lessons.

Dropoff and Pickup

Please arrive to your lesson at least 5 minutes before your scheduled time. Students may wait in the lobby until their instructor is ready for them. Please pick up your student on time. If you are late to pick up your student, please know that your student will be waiting in the lobby unattended until you are able to pick them up. Instruct your student to wait inside the building. Please do not ask students to meet you elsewhere. During peak hours, the parking lot is crowded. Please drive slowly and carefully. Do not take a chance on your student running to and from your car.

Injuries and Loss of Property

Parents, legal guardians of minors, students, and adult students waive the right to any legal action for any injury sustained on school property resulting from normal lesson activity or any other activity conducted by the students or their siblings before, during, or after lesson time, including hearing loss or hearing damage. Pittsburgh School of the Arts is not responsible for any damage done to vehicles or items stolen from vehicles. We are not responsible for any personal items that are left or lost. Please put your name on any items you frequently bring in for lessons.
