World Music Drumming: Samba Edition

World Music Drumming

This class is a great introduction to rhythm and ensemble performance for beginners, but also affords the opportunity for more advanced students to challenge themselves with greater levels of difficulty. The class will culminate with a performance at our spring recitals.

This semester, we'll be delving deeper into samba music. Originating in Brazil with strong African influence, samba is known for its fast, electrifying rhythm and celebratory mood. The samba groove is unlike anything in Western music, with a subtle shifting of 16th notes giving it a unique swing. It's hard to sit still when the groove gets going!
