Intro to Graphic Design

Objective: The goal of this class is to help students learn and apply core principles of visual design across all types of graphic design. This class will focus on the process of poster design and how to incorporate typography and imagery to communicate a message in an impactful way.

Materials: Computer that can handle the Adobe suite, Adobe suite purchase (laptop or desktop version), sketchbook, pen or pencil. Hold off on Adobe subscription purchase until class begins on Week 3.

Cost of class: $225 for 10 week course + $19.99/mo for 1 year with student discount. An accredited K-12 public school email address is required as proof of student status with Adobe) or $31.49/mo per individual program for 2 months (2 programs: Illustrator & Photoshop)

Sofia Whiddon

Sofia is a freelance graphic designer and illustrator with over 15 years of experience in print, digital and illustration design. After graduating with a BFA in Communications Design from Pratt Institute, she has worked in industries ranging from architectural engineering to creative marketing. Her freelance clients include talented professionals in the arts, non-profit, publishing and restaurant hospitality sectors.

A lifelong learner, she is passionate about helping others reach their goals. Sofia continues to experiment, combining new and traditional art mediums in her work and finds joy in hand stitching and mending clothing.

In 2020, Sofia and her husband Colin launched Three Brothers Bagels, a neighborhood bagel shop, focused on crafting quality, sourdough bagels to local communities. She believes purpose-driven design and good food brings people together.
